Hi Matteo --

I'm Yelp's Senior PR Manager and wanted to take a moment to respond. First, awesome to hear you're a fan of the site! As you probably know, Yelp does things a little bit differently from other review sites. We launch city by city so we can aim to be a truly valuable local resource, and is also why you haven't seen us in Italy until now! When we move into a new city, we have a marketing program that is in place for the first few months before the site goes live. These marketing assistants clean up business listings and information, add photos and content. As soon as the site goes live, they are pulled out, but you can still recognize who they are and their relation with Yelp by the "Scout" badge on their profile. This is a program we have always been open about and have done in almost every city since Yelp launched 7 years ago. These are still real people writing reviews about real experiences. However, as more people start finding and using Yelp, more content will be added by people like you. As you can imagine, if there hadn't been any information there in the first place or wrong contact/address details, you probably wouldn't have been likely to come back.

Hope that insight is useful.

Thanks!

Matteo, thank you for your opinion. Analysing previous Google activities, I believe that in ideal world +1 feature will improve search relevancy, so for example visitors liked your website and they gave you +1. But I have two rhetorical questions:
1. If I have done my search, I have browsed to my search result, why do I need to come back to same search query? (so +1 feature need something like open graph protocol).
2. What will stop Gray and Black hat SEOers to manipulate with +1 same as now everybody doing with FB likes?

Serge Pon
